Pastering Tools
Plaster is a building material used for the protective and/or decorative
coating of walls and ceilings and for moulding and casting decorative
elements. The most common types of plaster mainly contain either gypsum, lime, or cement.
Plastering
Trowel
Used to spread and smooth a surface after the sand/cement mix has
begun to set; it is held nearly level to the surface and moved with a sweeping arc across the
surface.
Plasterer Floats
Can be of
plastic, wooden or sponge float on plaster - much of it depends on personal
preference. Plastic is a good general all-rounder. Wood gives a slightly
rougher finish, which will help the top coat of plaster grip, whereas a damp
sponge float is useful for walls that start drying out too quickly.
Sometimes can be used to hold Mortar temporarily
when throwing to the surface.
Gauging
Trowel
The gauging trowel is a versatile tool used for
transferring plaster (the broad rounded point is ideal for picking plaster out
of a bucket) and for applying plaster to a wall or surface.
Can sometimes be used for spreading
mortar on bricks or concrete blocks.
Bucket trowel
a wide-bladed tool for scooping
mortar from a bucket;
it is also good for buttering bricks and smoothing mortar.
